Beach Holiday Or City Break – The Pros of Each

With so many destinations from which to choose, booking a holiday can be a minefield. Should you opt for a city break where you can immerse yourself in the local culture or a beach holiday which you know will keep the kids happy giving you a chance to soak up some much needed sun. What about teenagers, who can be fickle at the best of times? How do you go about deciding on a holiday that will cater for the requirements of all the family?

Beach Holidays

Nothing can quite beat a beach holiday to ease the stresses and strains of the daily grind. Leave the office behind and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of warm sand and gently lapping waves. A beach holiday will certainly have more to entice younger travellers. They will have hours of fun making sandcastles, exploring rock pools and splashing in shallow water. This will give adults the opportunity to soak up some sun and relax.

For a change of pace, indulge in some water-based sports. Try out diving, snorkelling, surfing or sailing or enjoy a once in a lifetime swim with dolphins. The UK has some fantastic unspoilt beaches to explore alongside traditional favourites such as Brighton and Blackpool. Although the weather may be unreliable, nothing quite beats the charm of a traditional British seaside holiday. If you would prefer somewhere warmer, the sun soaked Mediterranean offers some of the best beaches in the world. If you are prepared to travel even further afield then you can experience palm-fringed islands and breath-taking beaches in place such as the Maldives, the Caribbean, Florida and Thailand where white powder sands collide with turquoise waters.

City Breaks

If you’re looking for an action packed holiday that will appeal to older children and teenagers a city break could be the answer. With so many vibrant cities close to the UK, you won’t need to spend long travelling and could easily make the trip in a weekend. Europe is a vast melting pot of cultures and experiences and each city has a unique identity of its own. From the dazzling grandeur of Paris and historic gems such as Barcelona, Rome, Florence and Venice you will find a city to appeal whether you prefer to explore galleries and museums, shop until you drop or check out the night-life. Other cities to consider include Amsterdam with its red brick streets and canals and Prague with its historic sites and cobbled streets.

There is no doubt that choosing a holiday can be a difficult decision, particularly when you have other family members to consider. Perhaps the best compromise is a holiday where you can enjoy the best of both worlds by combining a beach holiday with a city break. There are plenty of destinations in Europe and further afield in the USA, Asia and Australia which allow you to do just that.
